Sole Nero

Sole Nero is a new approach to the concept of optic stores. It is designed in such a way as to meet the demands of the contemporary market while at the same time through its’ unique ambient sets the framework for new trends. Conceived and realised entirely by CTRLZAK Art & Design Studio every single detail is combined to the next, creating a whole which functions in more than one levels. From the name itself to the specialised furniture, the unique display areas to the inox mesh structures and even the complementing accessories; everything works in unison to create a seamless result full of connotations and hidden meanings while at same time providing good functional solutions.
The brief requested a luxurious result aiming on quality through a minimal style. After a long research in the field the CTRLZAK team de-contextualised the functions and aesthetics of what an optics store is about and came up with a radical yet simple approach that facilitated the movement of the clients within the space and the ease of exposition. Two large volumes where created on either sides of the central area: a six-metre glossy-black cabinet filled with specially designed hidden drawers and a polished inox arc in which the glasses are nested. Main emphasis was also placed in lighting & viewing conditions. The whole ceiling on the main floor is covered by a white membrane which produces uniform lighting (close to daylight colour temperature) that alternates depending on the natural light conditions. Specialised regulated lighting is also used in the exposition areas being though of a warmer hue placing emphasis on the items presented. The viewing process is underlined by a large six metre mirror that covers the main part of the wall where the drawers’ cabinet is placed. The staircase leads to the upper floor where a specially designed area for contact lenses application can be found together with a small relaxing lounge area. The actual staircase is encased in a flexible inox mesh which is lighted from both sides creating a semi-barrier which works both at a functional and an aesthetical level. More even so the same material –with larger openings- can be found at the storefront where it creates again a semi-division with the rest of the space while it functions also as a supporting surface permitting various setups depending on the products and the seasons.
